What is it about LEGO? I had the classic set when I was a kid, made the ever popular rectangular boxes with a door and a window – that was about the extent of my creativity back in 1974. Interestingly enough though, the LEGO made the cut through many purges and still resides at my Mom and Dad’s house today.

Now my kids, both girl and boy (but mostly boy) are obsessed with it. Every set, every box and of course the ridiculously extensive web site and LEGO club are a never ending stream of all things LEGO in our house.

Fast forward to Monday night when, at a meeting I run for Toronto Female Entrepreneurs, my friend Carol-Ann pulls out her i Phone 4 and takes my picture. A few screen slides and button pushes later, there I am LEGOized. This app is not new. For most i Phone users it’s an all time fave. Today we launched a fun little game called MOVIN’ ON UP on our web site.

It commemorates our official move into our new glorious office space on St Clair Ave West in Toronto.

Our designers had fun re-skinning an old frogger game (if you are over 40 or watch Seinfeld you’ll get this analogy).

The new game asks you to help Norm (our creative director) move boxes across St Clair Ave while dodging streetcars and buses…so have fun and watch out for the smog. It gets me every time. If you can figure out the custom St Clairesque designed elements (there are 9 in total) send them to us and you could win our undying respect for your knowledge of our beloved neighbourhood. Even if you don’t want that, send them to us anyway.

Two years ago we started to work with a mentor. Our mentor, Ilise Benun from Marketing Mentor, was initially hired on to help us build our marketing tools. I know, that sounds crazy, we are a communications firm for goodness sake. But the reality is that when you are a busy firm – you never take the time to work on your own marketing needs – the shoe makers daughter so to speak.

We are lucky. Many clients come to us by “work of mouth” and referrals. But a business that relies on referrals is foolish and we knew that. Ilise forced us to dream and build and put the pieces into place to consistently market to our audience. She forced us to work on our business as opposed to working in it all the time.
